Okay, more from a new rider on the Biketreks racing team for 2012.

So... Hi, I’m Connor, and I’ll be riding with Biketreks Racing team as a Junior rider throughout this coming season.
I live In Ulverston in the South Lakes, which is also the Home of the Lakes Road Club, and they’re a bunch of great riders, some of which have a dysfunction in their genes, which makes them want to race… Up-hill!?
One of which, we know as Howie.
Now, he’s a bit different because, he has gone one step further and organised his own hill climb races for the other riders. Putting in lots of effort to get the courses approved for the use of the racers.
The first year, 2011, saw loads of great riders (including John and Nic), and, new riders (including Me) racing. And with this, and a local charity in mind, He’s gone and organised a 7 race series for 2012, on 6 different courses around the area.
So a massive thanks to Howard Lindow for organising them for us!

A few of us are keen to race these events and, We’re hoping to see a huge turnout for the Climbs again this year.

      See you there!
      Connor Furness

Things we do in the off-season n.2: Testing

RAMP Tests for half the team yesterday in Staveley at The Body Rehab on the Wattbike, a super dupper turbo training device able to log power all around the pedalling motion.

The RAMP Testing is fairly simple in principle. Warm up 20 mins, start at an baseline resistance and cadence, then every minute increase and sustain pedalling cadence to increase power by 20W until you can no longer sustain the effort. Good baseline for setting training zones accurately but also see where a rider is in term of own training and fitness prior to the racing season ahead.

Many thanks to Graham Theobald for the expert advice and encouragements to get every ounces of power out of our riders.

Need some advice to set training zones? The Body Rehab in Staveley can help. They're also equipped with altitude trainer to simulate training at high altitude.

      Frame of mind.

So happy new year and all that. It's the new year, and with that, why not a new post from a new rider? So, hello, I'm James.

2012 has just begun, and in around 2 weeks the pros will be starting their first race. My first race on the other hand is in March but 'proper' training starts NOW. So far it's not gone well, I'm not going to lie, the festive period was tiring, but, now it's over it's time to knuckle down.

I've started this off with a leg shave. Without trying to sound to poetical, it feels like I'm getting rid of the off-season, no more drinking, no more staying up late and no more maccy d's. It's racing time soon, and I need to get in the right frame of mind so I can get in the right state of physical prowess, like a tiger.

Shaving always brings up one problem, just how high do you go?

      My nipples are very sensitive.

      James
